 Specimen Platen Assembly
The kit consists of the platen, sapphire flat and retaining ring.
The D500i is supplied with a standard Specimen Platen Assembly consisting of a Specimen Platen, Retainer Ring, and a Sapphire Flat. So if you are purchasing the Model D500i, there is no need to purchase another kit.
Specimen Platen
The Specimen Platen has a central hole for light transmission from the back lighting in the Platen Tower. It is threaded for the Retainer Ring and machined with a hex mounting hole so it fits snugly on the Platen Drive Shaft.
Retainer Ring
The Retainer Ring holds the Sapphire Flat in place and acts as a reservoir for the lapping medium.
Sapphire Flat
The Sapphire Flat serves as the mounting surface for the specimen. It is optically flat for easy specimen removal, clear to increase transmitted light through Platen Drive Shaft, and hard in order to minimize damage from over dimpling. If one surface is accidentally dimpled it can be flipped over providing another surface.
Magnetic Eccentric Platen (MEP)
This item is useful to position off-center dimple sites. In order to properly use the MEP, the MEP centering stand is also required (below).
MEP Centering Stand
This is used in conjunction with the Platen (see above).
Diamond Flattening Tools
These various tools could be useful depending on what kinds of samples are being prepared. The numbering system is the original VCR Group's numbering system.
