All required options and features are included for receiver and transmitter testing up to 1000 MHz. The simplex, semi-duplex and full-duplex modes of MES 1000 allow receiver and transmitter tests to be performed simultaneously through one port. A backlight LCD display provides the user with all setup configurations and measured information. All instrument settings are entered easily by the numeric keyboard and the softkeys. A quasi-continuous rotary control knob or two increment-decrement keys allow simple modifications of the selected parameters with free selectable delta-steps. The MES 1000 makes automatic and remote-controlled measurements via the IEEE-Bus interface when connected to an external personal computer. In TX mode for transmitter tests, the nominal frequency is entered via the front panel or the MES 1000 automatically tunes to the incoming signal frequency. In auto-tune mode five different nominal frequencies with channel spacing and duplex-offset can be defined and the MES 1000 automatically calculates and tunes to the nearest nominal frequency. The menu "TXALL" displays simultaneously the TX- and nominal frequency, the frequency offset, RF power in Watt and dBm, pos. and neg. peak-modulation and the modulation frequency. Weighting filters can be directly selected from this menu. For RF power measurements three RF inputs are available. The sensitivity of low-power input (antenna-input) is increased by 20 dB when using the pre-amplifier AMP 1 GB which is DC powered from the front panel. The results of harmonic measurements are displayed either in a numeric table or as a spectrum. Any harmonics in the spectrum may be selected with the rotary control knob and then be measured continuously. The built-in transient recorder for run-in and decay of power and frequency is displayed simultaneously versus time. The performance testing of modulation is possible in the TX-AF-measurement mode. The frequency response of the AF-signal, SINAD/distortion and signal-to-noise ratio S/N are displayed in separate menus. The variation of frequency and the level of the internal AFgenerators during measurements allow simple checking of the modulator. The two AFgenerators up to 16 kHz and 32 kHz are used for transmitter and receiver testing. The MES 1000 supports a wide range of analog and digital tones decoders for testing most of the international common signalling standards. User defined tone sequences may be programmed also. The decoder displays the tone or transmitted tone sequences, deviation and percentage error of incoming frequency to nominal frequency and actual tone sequence duration to nominal tone sequence duration. In RX-mode the synthesized signal generator allows receiver testing from 100 kHz to 1000 MHz. All major generator settings such as RF-frequency, RF-output level and modulation modes are simply configured in one menu. The parameters are changed easily by softkeys. The comprehensive RX-AF measurements allow the user to select signal-to-noise S/N, SINAD and distortion tests. All readings are displayed numerically and as bargraph for maximum user convenience. The squelch-thresholds of receivers are measured automatically or manually by variation of the RF-level. The MES 1000 generates various digi
